TWO ZONE 16 RIDERS SELECTED IN AUSTRALIAN JUNIOR MOUNTED GAMES TEAM

Marion Whalan, Friday, 15 January 2010

On Saturday 13 February, selection trials were held in Victoria for the Australian Junior Mounted GamesTeam to compete in the UK later this year.

Both Patrick Ryan, from Murrumbateman and Lauren Slater from Wamboin were selected as members of the Australian Team.

Congratulations to both Pat and Lauren.

Here is a report written by Lauren Slater, Wamboin Pony Club

Melbourne Australian Team Tryouts
On Friday 12th February Patrick Ryan, myself and David Harris, the NSW and Australian Mounted Games coach, flew to Melbourne for the selection trials for the Junior Pony Club Australian Mounted Games Team. We arrived at the Melbourne airport at around 1:30pm after a comfortable flight with yummy sandwiches. We were met by Tim Ling from PCA Victoria, who then drove us and the Northern Territory group to Frankston Caravan Park where we were to be staying that night.
After meeting the riders and chaperones from all the other states we were then driven to Dingley Pony Club where we had a look at the Mounted Games equipment and had a barbeque for dinner. At the barbeque everyone made a short speech about themselves as part of the meet and greet.
After dinner everyone was driven back to the caravan park for the night. I shared a cabin with a rider from Tasmania and a Queensland rider and chaperone. At 8am the next morning we were driven to the pony club for a cooked breakfast. After breakfast we were able to meet the horses and owners and shortly afterwards we started the trials. For the trials we competed in 14 games in teams of 6 and after each game we swapped horses. As we rode, the selectors watched and gave us a mark out of ten for each race.
After the trials the selectors huddled to make their decision, while the riders had lunch. Shortly afterwards the team was announced. The team comprises Patrick Dyson from Victoria, Jaime Kah from SA, Mitchell Hutton from WA, Patrick Ryan and I from NSW.
After the announcement all the riders were driven to the local bowling centre where we all had a fun game. We were then driven back to Dingley Pony Club to collect our bags and then to the airport to fly home.
I’d like to thank PCA Victoria for hosting the selections and PCANSW for supporting both NSW riders by flying them to Melbourne for the trials.

Zone 16 Polocrosse Training Days - 14 Feb, 13 & 14 Mar

Marion Whalan, Friday, 5 February 2010

With the Zone 16 Polocrosse Championships to be held on 20 and 21 March, the following Training Days have been organised. We appreciate these are also club rally days, but this clash is simply unavoidable.

Sunday 14 February - Hall Polocrosse Grounds, from 8.30am - Individuals or Teams

Saturday 13 March - Hall Polocrosse Grounds from 2.00pm - Teams preferred, Individuals also welcome
Sunday 14 March - same venue, overnight camping available - 8.00am start, if possible, try to get the whole team there. (This is the weekend prior to the Championships, great opportunity to fine tune teams).

Please bring as much of your own gear as you can. This weekend will also be a great opportunity to have your gear checked prior to the Championships so you can be certain whether or not it will pass at the Championships.
